 Non-Profit and Charity Art Projects

"Our beautiful world is full of worthy causes that I, as well as my fellow artists, are often asked to support.  I always find it difficult to decide which of these charity/non-profit  projects to choose to devote my energy to; however, I always feel personally rewarded by my involvements. It is my sincerest desire that  through my non-profit art  projects and selective donations of my paintings for auctions benefiting charity and civic organizations that I  have helped to  make a positive difference in this world."       - DGN

The images below are a sample of past non-profit/charity organization and civic art projects that Newsome has participated in through her artistic endeavors.

FLAUNT 2012 - Thomasville Center for the Arts

Upcycled Victorian Masquerade Ball Gown

EarthLover window display exhibiting my oil paintings.

FLAUNT 2012 Artist Project Challenge "Dress" using recycled refuse donated by my local corporate sponsor organization, "Keep Thomas County Beautiful."

The dress was created from a 1 foot by 1 foot box containing garbage to incorporate into the construction of the dress.  Included in these items were plastic bags, soft drink cans, many computer parts and wires, brochures, a green t-shirt, a bottle cap, bubble wrap, a store receipt, etc.  I also recycled a 1970's prom gown, vintage pink and white tablecloths, costume jewelry, a sheet, a broken plastic coat hanger, and grey and white yarn.

In the world of recycling, one person's garbage can truly become another person's art.

Pictured left is the resulting Victorian Masquerade Ball Gown designed and contructed by me using the items listed above.

The dress was created for the FLAUNT event, and then donated to Thomasville Center for the Arts.  The dress will be displayed in the window of EarthLover on Broad Street in downtown Thomasville, GA until the end of September 2012.  EarthLover is one of only three Fair Trade stores in the state of Georgia.  Please visit their webisite or their store.  The dress will then be displayed throughout the state of Georgia over the coming months.

Norma Livingston Foundation - Eggs to Ovaries Auction - Birmingham, AL

Newsome along with other participating artists,  were given a real (empty) ostrich egg that we were asked to decorate/paint with our original designs in our chosen medium.  The decorated eggs were auctioned at a gala/event and the proceeds from this event helped to fund the Norma Livingston Foundation which benefits ovarian cancer research.
